Childhood Cancer Awareness Mural in honor of Mighty Millie

It is an honor to present this beautiful mural painted alongside the new Howdy ATL Cafe in Grant Park, near Zoo Atlanta! This mural was painted to bring the community together to raise awareness for childhood cancer and spread Mille’s joy with all who pass by. We hope that it serves as a reminder to childhood cancer fighters and their families that we see you, you are not alone, and you are brave.

This mural is bright and joyful, just like Millie! And, it’s packed with meaning:

  • Grant Park Vertical with Est. 1883— Paying homage to the history of the Grant Park community and its formation about Lemuel P. Grant

  • Clio the Elephant— Clio was the very first animal for the Atlanta Zoo. She represents the history of the zoo, and the start of something wonderful for the community

  • Grant Park Neighborhood Sunburst— Ensures that every person who snaps a photo, whether its a neighborhood family, or a tourist from South Korea, it puts this tight-knit neighborhood community on the map

  • Howdy ATL logo— Marking both the history above, and new beginnings today with the opening of Howdy ATL Biscuit Bakery and Cafe making its mark in the community and ready to bring joy to each tummy it serves

  • CocaCola logo— Pays homage to the past mural

  • Rainbow— represents the Mighty Millie Foundation. Their mission is to spread Millie’s joy. Rainbows embody and symbolize joy, and Millie loved them. It's a universal sign of a gift. Our intent is for the mural to spread and create joy for everyone who passes by.

  • Popsicle— Mighty Millie Foundation Popsicle Project creates small moments of big joy for children by providing all-natural popsicles to kids during treatment at pediatric hospitals.

  • Zebra— Millie loved the Atlanta Zoo and visited regularly. Her favorite animal was the zebra.

  • Saturn Planet— Millie had a telescope she looked through every night. A few weeks before Millie passed, she got to see “The Christmas Star”— Jupiter and Saturn conjunction.

  • Joined hearts— representing the bond Millie had with her brother Jack. Also recognizing that pediatric cancer affects siblings, too.

  • “You Are Brave”— Millie’s parents wrote a mantra for Millie before she was born. The first line was: “I am Brave.” Mighty Millie Foundation wants all children fighting cancer to know: “You Are Brave.”

The mural will be up for the summer, so please stop by and see it the next time you’re in Grant Park or headed to the Zoo! We’d love for you to stop by and take a photo, say a prayer, or take a moment of silence in honor of the bravest children on the planet.

Together, forever, we fight childhood cancer. All in honor of our very Mighty Millie.
